About the Event
Our May First Thursday is a rare early look at Louie Psihoyos' new documentary, Tainted Love before it’s released. All about microplastics, the documentary will cover their alarming impact on us and the world:
“Those chemicals are now in our body… They're affecting our intelligence … it can genetically affect not just your own weight but your progeny’s weight four generations down.”
Louie Psihoyos is an Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Executive Director of the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS). A former National Geographic photographer for 18 years, he has created iconic images for major publications worldwide.
Passionate about ocean conservation, he founded OPS in 2005 to use film as a powerful tool for environmental awareness. His groundbreaking documentaries include:
The Cove (2009) – Academy Award winner, exposing Japan’s dolphin hunting practices.
Racing Extinction (2015) – Emmy-nominated, uncovering mass species extinction and featuring massive projections on global landmarks.
The Game Changers (2019) – Challenges the myth that meat is essential for strength, executive produced by James Cameron.
Through visually stunning storytelling, Psihoyos is transforming documentaries into catalysts for global change.
About First Thursdays:
On the 1st Thursday of each month, we host an evening for our community of high achievers, who are also "good from within". Our intent is to create a “modern day blue zone” where we tackle big challenges, share insights, & build community—all over exceptional food.
We provide the space, Michelin-level food, drinks, music & staff, including the best bartender and DJ in NYC. We don’t charge for entry but occasionally we support causes we care about. We’ve hosted extraordinary events, including:
Misbelief book launch with Dan Ariely
A panel with Mindy Grossman, former CEO of WW International
A collaboration featuring five professional ballerinas and a Grammy-winning violinist
The Invisible Extinction movie premiere with microbiome experts Martin Blaser & Gloria Dominguez-Bello
Bottom line, we always have an exciting mix of accomplished people to meet, learn & have fun with for the evening!
